"Fresh Coat of Paint" Update Announcement


Woah, long time no see! How is everyone?

Well, anyway, I'm back working on Starlance again! SomeBunny and WitherGates are also on board with the plans I have for the future. I decided that it would be due time to get back on the Game Dev train, starting off with prepping Starlance for a full and proper STEAM RELEASE!!! Yeah, you heard that right! Once this update drops, Starlance will become available as a free(?) title on Steam. Oh, right, speaking of the update, let's talk about it!

The "Fresh Coat of Paint" update intends to give Starlance a... well, a fresh coat of paint. Starlance was released at the time it was because me and the others were pretty exhausted with working on the project, and just wanted to be done with it. News flash: I REGRETTED THAT!!! So now, we're coming back to make the game look and feel a whole lot better to play! Here's a list of things we have planned for the future...

  • Endless Mode - Fight through levels and waves of enemies... endlessly! Collect upgrades, drones and other perks to make it as far as you can!
  • Difficulties & Major Re-Balancing - To be honest, the current version of Starlance has some pretty unbalanced parts, and the game is incredibly difficult to those who don't have much experience with these types of games. To combat this, we will be implementing 3 different difficulty modes; Easy, Medium and Hard! (Original, I know.) Easy mode will feature slower, weaker and more fragile enemies, less bullets on the screen, and more leniency with I-Frames. Normal mode will be the original Starlance experience, no changes there. However, Hard mode will introduce new enemy AI's, more difficult bullet patterns and fiercer, faster bosses. Stay tuned for more details!
  • UI Overhaul - The UI elements of the game are currently very inconsistent. We intend to consolidate everything to a collective style, and make the buttons and such feel a lot better to interact with.
  • Story Re-Write - I originally wrote the story for Starlance with the intention of expanding the game later, with more levels, characters and story beats. Since this will be the final update for Starlance and I won't be revisiting the game after this point (maybe), the story will be re-written to fit better in context for what's currently in the game. The dialogue system will also be revamped with new art and formatting.
  • Audio & Visual Overhauls - Just general polish on the end of gameplay. New SFX, VFX, particles, trails, etc.
  • QOL - We'll also be adding an abundance on QOL features, such as key re-binding, some customization options, and more. Details are a little foggy right now, but we'll keep you updated.

That's a majority of the bases covered, I think... We'll keep you updated on our progress in the coming weeks! We'll also let you know a release date for the update once we have everything ready and start our final playtesting and polishing. With that I'm signing off. Thanks, and see you soon!
